2008 San Sebastian Open

IM Salgado Lopez Ivan leading after six rounds

XXXI Open Internacional de Ajedrez Ciudad de San Sebastian is being held on 16th-23rd March in San Sebastian/Donostia, Spain. The event is taking place in the famous main meeting room of the San Sebastian Town Council, the same venue where legendary 1911 San Sebastian Tournament was played.

The time control is 90mins+30secs and there will be 9 rounds played with swiss pairing system. Total prize fund is around 6.500 Euros, first prize is 1.500 Euros. A total of 120 players are competing in the tournament, top rated is regular San Sebastian visitor GM Kevin Spraggett.

Junior IM Salgado Lopez Ivan (ESP 2459) is leading the race with 5.5 points after six rounds. He is being closely followed by GM Lopez Martinez Josep Manuel (ESP 2550), GM Del Rio De Angelis Salvador (ESP 2487), GM Spraggett Kevin (CAN 2588), IM Andres Gonzalez Alberto (ESP 2436) and IM Simutowe Amon (ZAM 2457), each of them to collect 5 points.
