Alexandra Kosteniuk wins yet another chess title
If it comes to any official big chess event for women, watch out for Alexandra Kosteniuk. After taking the World Rapid Chess Championship and the World Chess Championship titles, the Russian star conquered the World Mind Sports games blitz event as well.
Yesterday, at the preliminary rounds, Kosteniuk had a good start, but lost her game against the Chinese young hope Yifan Hou, thus losing chances to take the first place in the qualifications. She remained second and the pole position went to Yifan Hou. Both of them were qualified for the semi final, together with the ex World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova and the Chinese Zhao Xue.
In the first semi final early Saturday morning Stefanova defeated Yifan Hou 2-1, while Kosteniuk did not leave any chances to Zhao Xue taking the match 2-0. In the final match in a difficult battle of the world champions, Stefanova did not hold the pressure and lost 2-1. The new champion once again was Kosteniuk.
The first rounds of the Rapid events will be played today as well. Stay tuned for updates on Chessdom.com!
