In the beginning of the Candidate matches we joked that the sheep will bring special luck to players. We turned out to be right. Until now the players qualified have the White sheep. Yesterday these were Leko and Kamsky. Today Alex Grishchuk joined them after a draw with Malakhov.
Leko Peter (HUN) - Gurevich Mikhail (TUR) (3.5-0.5)
Kamsky Gata (USA) - Bacrot Etienne (FRA) (3.5-0.5)
Grischuk Alexander (RUS) - Malakhov Vladimir (RUS) 1/2 - 1/2 (3.5-0.5)
Day 5 at Elista saw surprising development in several games. Polgar stunned Bareev and she is set for a comeback. It is not going to be easy for her tomorrow, but the psychological advantage may play a big role. Carlsen won against Aronian in what turns to be the most exciting encounter with 4 out of 5 decisive games. Now both are level and it is difficult to predict the outcome of the game tomorrow. Gefland and Kasimdzhanov are also level, but if they keep on drawing we may witness even an armagedon game. Michael Adams and Sergei Rublevsky are a step closer to victory after comfortable draws.
Ponomariov Ruslan (UKR) - Rublevsky Sergei (RUS) 1/2 - 1/2 (2-3)
Gelfand Boris (ISR) - Kasimdzhanov Rustam (UZB) 1/2 - 1/2 (2.5-2.5)
Adams Michael (ENG) - Shirov Alexei (ESP) 1/2 - 1/2 (3-2)
Polgar Judith (HUN) - Bareev Evgeny (RUS) 1 - 0 (3-2)
Carlsen Magnus (NOR) - Aronian Levon (ARM) 1 - 0 (2.5-2.5)
