Welcome to the round 10 live coverage of the Chess Olympiad on Chessdom.com! Yesterday we had an exciting round with many surprising events and today nothing less is expected. The leaders are very close to each other on the top of the standings and anyone may grab a medal in the remaining rounds.
14:45 CET
Two players today have a special round. GM Veselin Topalov broke the virtual 2800 rating after defeating GM Berg yesterday. GM Akopian also broke an ELO barrier and came into the 2700 club. For both players this is reentry (Topalov has been over 2800 after San Luis, while Akopian has been over 2700 from April 2005 to January 2008).
14:50 CET
It is an even more special day for GM Ivan Ivanisevic, one of the most progressing chess players. He has a birthday today. Best wishes from the Chesssdom team!
15:00 CET
And the games are on! Topalov starts his defence of the 2800 rating with a Caro Kann against Shirov, Ivanchuk - Gelfand and Roiz - Karjakin are Slav defence.
