Mikhail Gurevich Wins Echternach Open

14-15th June in Luxembourg with a record turnout of 310 players

The 15th Open Echternach was held on 14-15th June in the “Hall of Mirrors” and the cloister of the ancient abbey in Luxembourg. Nine rounds of the Swiss pairing system were played, and the time rate was “rapid” – 45 minutes for the entire game.

Turkish champion and recent World Chess Championship candidate, GM Mikhail Gurevich, crowned a vigorous performance with seven wins and two draws, which was sufficient for the sole first place among a record 310 participants. Gurevich goes home with 1000 Euros in his pocket. Top placed woman was WGM Elvira Berend, member of the local team Dudelange.
