Russia's men team conqured the ETCC 2007 title one round before the end. With 15 MP Svidler and Co grabbed the golden medals after a draw with Spain. However, the battle for the silver and bronze medals will be exciting since many teams are in position to get them. Israel's win against Slovenia, thanks to the victory of GM Rodshtein on the last board,catapulted them to second place with 12 MP.
Armenia is third and has the same score after a tough battle with Azerbaidjan, which finished 2:2, with decisive games by GM Radjabov and GM Sargissian. Bulgaria took the 4th place in the current standings after storming through Hungary with 3:1 as top boards GM Cheparinov and GM Georgiev won. France continued their winning streak by defeating the tough team of the Czech Republic.
It will be a tought fight for the medals tomorrow. In best position are Armenia and Israel (12 MP), followed by Bulgaria, France, and Azeibardjan (11 MP), and with theoretical chances for Slovenia, Poland, Ukraine, England, Spain, and FYROM (10MP).
GM Shirov won against GM Morozevich, games two and three finished tie, but Spain lost the game on board four and GM Jakovenko brought the 2:2 draw to Russia
Azerbaidjan and Armenia also did not give us a winner, GM Mamedyarov and GM Aronian finished a draw and in total the match resulted in 2:2
Team Slovenia, who made several strong matches, could not equal Israel. Three boards finished a tie and the match was to be decided between IM Borisek and the higher rated GM Rodshtein, who eventually won and produced the final score Slovenia:Israel - 1.5:2.5
GM Ivanchuk won on board one against GM Socko, but the rest of the Polish team did not give up without a fight and the final result was a 2:2 draw
Hungary could not keep up with the Bulgarian attack and lost 1:3 with GM Cheparinov and GM Georgiev winning for Bulgaria on boards one and two
The Czech Republic and France finished 1.5:2.5 with draws on the first three boards and GM Bauer winning for France on board four
Georgia lost 1.5:2.5 to Michael Adams' England
Greece and FYROM showed an equal game and the match was decided on board four where the higher rated GM Papaioannou from Greece lost to GM Stanojoski , final score 1.5:2.5
Sweden and Netherlands finished 2:2 with draws all over the boards
Denmark won against Iceland with GM Nielsen winning on board one against GM Stefansson
Switzerland lost to strong Lithuania with 1:3
Norway and Montenegro gave us yet another 2:2 draw
Serbia showed might against Estonia and in one of the few games with no draws Serbia and Estonia scored 3:1
Italy won against Germany with 2.5:1.5
GM Lupulescu won his game on board one for Romania, but Croatia showed powerful game on the lesser boards and Romania lost 1.5:2.5
Belgium came victorious out of their match with Lucembourg winning two and drawing two games, 3:1
Wales vs. Cyprus - 2:2 with two wins and two losses for each team
Monaco gave in to Scotland with 1.5:2.5
Russia's women team is a step away from the golden medal after a convincing win 3½ : ½ against the Netherlands. The main contenders for the title, Poland, lost to Armenia 1½ : 2½. Georgia beated Hungary with the same result and Ukraine stormed through France 3:1. This puts the standings in the women section in a similar situation to the men's one. Russia is on top with 14 MP and only a convincing victory for Poland can keep the title away. They are followed by many contenders for the second place with Poland and Armenia (12MP), Georgia and Ukraine (11MP), and Slovenia, Romania, Germany, and Netherlands (10MP).
Russia smashed the Netherlands with three wins of GM Kosteniuk, IM N. Kosintseva and IM Korbut, scoring 3.5:0.5
Poland's team spirit was not enought to secure a win against Armenia and IM Mkrtchian took away the victory for Armenia on board two, 1.5:2.5
Georgia's first board, IM Javakhishvili, won and with two draws on the other boards Georgia triumphed over Hungary eith 2.5:1.5
Germany crushed Spain with three wins and a draw, scoring 3.5:0.5
Bulgaria lost to powerful Slovenia with 1:3
The Czech Republic stepped back to Romania for 1.5:2.5
Croatia and Azerbaidjan finished a 2:2 tie with the Mamedjarova sisters drawing and exchanging a win and a loss on the other two boards
Lithuania lost to England with 1:3
Serbia came out victorious of their match with Estonia with 3.5:0.5
