The European School Chess Championship for girls and boys is taking place at the beutiful Athos hotel in Halkidiki, Greece. More than 200 players from over 30 countries participate in the event, among them several national champions and many young talents. The competition is part of the Games Festival and parallel to it Halkidiki Open 2008 and World Amateur chess championships are taking place.

There is no clear favorite in the group of the youngest girls. After 3 rounds, two players are on top with 2,5/3 - Kozlova and Drogovoz, followed by a group of players with 2,0/3.
All results and information about the U9 group
Two players are clearly dominating the group - Liubov Kostitsina and Mariya Vasova. While Kostitsina is still to prove strong, Mariya Vasova is quiet know to the north of Greece. She has recently won the Bulgarian U10 championship with a full results 7,0/7. Tomorrow the top board game is between Vasova and Kostitsina.
All results and information about the U11 group
This is the first group in the girls section of the European School Chess Championship where we can see a titled player - WFM Daria-Ioana Visanescu. However, she was surprised by strong Georgian opposition - Unapkoshvili and Macharashvili are leading with 3,0/3 and 2,5/0. They play against each other in round 4. WFM Visanescu has 2,0/3 and will meet Ioana Gelip.

While the U13 group is dominated by the Georgian players, the U15 one is led by Russians - Mustafina and Alieva. Yet, 5 players are within 1/2 point, so everything is to be decided.

As a real nice gesture by the organizers of the Games Festival, a U7 group has been created. It is pure joy to watch this future talants develop their skill in game atmosphere. The group is wide open and anyone could win it.

A nice large group of players compete at this section. Current leaders are Gasimov and Urdulashvili, both with 3,0/3. Tomorrow they play on board 1.

Probably the most ballanced of all groups and the first to have players 2000+. Antal, Babazade, and Minko lead with full score 3,0/3.

One more Bulgarian chess talent is here and he is leading the U13 group. This is Anatoli Atanasov, who tied for 3rd place at the national U14 competitions. In round 4 on board 1 he is meeting the other player with full score - Marinescu.

Lortkipanidze surprised everyone in the group and is leading with full 3,0/3. Tomorrow he is meeting the top seeded Zernyshkin, who has 2,5/3.

A wide open strong group that is constantly bringing surprises. The results certainly do not follow the current ELO of the opponents and anything may happen.
