GM Baadur Jobava won his round 8 game against the leader GM Andrei Volokitin, to surpass him with half a point and share the lead with GM Ernesto Inarkiev. Inarkiev, who was sole leader of the event a few rounds earlier, took a full point from GM Papaioannou and will have to face GM Jobava with black in round 9. (Selected games bellow)
A total of 12 players are half a point behind the leaders of the European Individual Chess Championship, including GM Georg Meier, GM David Navara, GM Andrei Volokitin, GM Sanan Sjugirov, GM Evgeny Tomashevsky, GM Dmitry Bocharov, GM Ivan Sokolov, GM Vladimir Malakhov, GM Boris Grachev, GM Gadir Guseinov, GM Rauf Mamedov, and GM Tomy Nyback.
Notable is the performance of FM Vugar Rasulov, who played a total of 8 games against GMs (previous report here) and did not lose a single one. He drew with GM Kobalia in round 8 and won against GM Sedlak in round 7 to be only a point behind the leaders and with 53 ELO points increase.
