Rapid match took place on 27-31st May in Prague, Czech Republic
The rapid match between legendary Vassily Ivanchuk and best Czech player David Navara concluded yesterday in Prague. Ivanchuk held a 3-1 lead while going into the rest day, but Navara struck with nice win in Saturday’s first game to reduce the margin. Just as local Czech fans, gathered around the playing hall to enjoy the live commentary by GM Lubomir Kavalek, expected to see more from their favourite player, Navara lowered his guard and collapsed in next two games. The last 8th game finished in a draw for the final result of 5.5-2.5 in Ivanchuk’s favour.
GM Lubomir Kavalek played a simul against 22 opponents, all of them being respected figures in Czech cultural life. His score was 15 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses. Václav Klaus, president of Czech Republic, followed the simul with interest as his sons Jan and Václav took participation.
