Five players have perfect score 3,0/3 after the firs rounds of the Pricewaterhouse Cooper Toronto Open Chess Championship. The leader on tiebreak is the top seeded US grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, who is joined at the top by GM Perelshteyn, GM Sambuev, IM Samsonkin, and GM Friedel.
One of the main contenders of the leaders, GM Alexander Shalabov, slipped to a draw in round 2 against the strongest woman, WIM Irina Zenyuk, and and both are half a point behind together with FM Thavandiran, David Peng, FM Milicevic, Liam Henry, and WFM Yuan.
The Pricewaterhouse Cooper Toronto Open Chess Championship features a prize fund of over 17 000 $, the winner of the open section will bag 3000$. It is a five rounds competition with variable time control. Round 1 is 30 moves in 90 minutes, 1 hour for remainder, while Rounds 2 to 5 are 40 moves in 2 hours, 1 hour for remainder.
