Campeonato nacional de ajedrez de Cuba

The National Chess Championship of Cuba (Campeonato nacional de ajedrez de Cuba) is going to take place January 12th-25th in Ciego de Ávila. Top seeded of the event is the 2009 champion GM Lazaro Bruzon and his main competition comes from GM Corrales Jimenez and GM Delgado Ramirez. The tournament is being played without GM Leinier Domínguez, second of Veselin Topalov, who is starting his participation at Corus 2010 in a few days.
It has been confirmed that the winner of the 2010 editon of the tournament will be part of the Olympic team for the Chess Olympiad in Khanty Mansiysk.
In round 1 Bruzon was victorious against FM Yusnel Bacallao in a 48 moves Sicilian Najdorf game, while Corrales defeated Lelys Martínez in a 60 moves Dragon. The surprise of the round was brought by IM Camilo Gómez who defeated GM Holden Hernández in a 69 moves closed Sicilian.
