The 2nd International Grandmasters’ Tournament the Lublin Union Memorial was held from 9th to 18th May in Lublin, Poland. Ten Grandmasters competed in a round-robin tournament.

GM Bartosz Socko was in joint lead after seven rounds, but on the final day he suffered a defeat with white pieces against the top seeded GM Igor Kurnosov. Even this victory could not help Kurnosov improve the ranking as he finished second to last, ahead of the youngest participant Dariusz Swiercz.

This development suited GM Bartlomiej Macieja who beat his compatriot GM Marcin Dzuiba and shared the honours with last year winner Boris Grachev and Poland’s reigning chess champion Mateusz Bartel. Macieja was declared winner on best tiebreak score.
