GM Renier Vazquez emerged leader in Seville

Four players sharing the second place with 4.5 points

The former Cuban and now Spanish Grandmaster Renier Vazquez emerged a leader of the 35th Abierto Internacional “Ciudad de Sevilla”, with perfect 5.0 points, after beating the Algerian GM Aimen Rizouk with white pieces.

Followed at a half a point distance the young GM Damian Lemos from Argentina and Latvian IM Ilmars Starostits, who quickly drew their game, the Russian GM Vladimir Burmakin who beat GM Manuel Rivas Pastor, and German GM Joerg Hickl who managed to turn the tables from an inferior position against IM Kiprian Berbatov.

A large group of 24 players with 4.0 points can still hope to participate in the struggle for the top finish. Among them are Grandmasters Oleg Korneev and Daniel Campora, who played an interesting tactical game in which Oleg wasted several chances to clinch a win.
