Summer Cup in Porto Carras

Update - Karlovich and Vafiadis drew their game and retained the lead

The 5th International Open Chess Tournament Summer Cup 2010 is currently ongoing in Porto Carras, Greece, the largest 5-star resort in the Mediterranean. The same venue was chosen by the EU for the European Leaders Summit 2003.

65 players from Greece, Hungary, Belgium, Ukraine, Serbia and FYROM are taking participation in the 9-round swiss tournament. WGM Anastazia Karlovich stunned the top-seeded GM Trajko Nedev in round four, and moved into joint lead with Kleanthis Vafiadis.

Update: Karlovich and Vafiadis drew their game in round 5 and retained the lead with 4.5 points each. Results and more information on the official website

In October 2010 the World Youth Chess Championships will be held in Porto Carras.

The luxury Porto Carras Grand Resort is situated in an enchantingly verdant landscape in Halkidiki, Northern Greece. Set like a gem in 1763(!) hectares (17 million sq. m.!) of incredibly beautiful grounds, it is a paradise of green, fringed by seemingly endless sandy beaches, in fact 9 kilometers of them(!), punctuated by more than 25 little coves where the pine trees sweep right down to the water's edge.
