Villa Martelli Tournaments

Three round robins on 4-12th August in Argentina

Argentina hosted three round robin tournaments from 4th to 12th August at Villa Martelli, in Buenos Aires Province. The main event was dedicated to celebration of the 200th anniversary of country’s independence. Reigning Argentina chess champion, GM Ruben Felgaer, won this tournament by collecting 6.5 points from nine games. He proved his point in competing with the best players from Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile and Argentina. The average elo of the field was 2558.

Most of the players are moving to Brazil, to participate in the Festival Paulista de Xadrez 2010.

The next tournament was 14th Magistral de la Republica Argentina, with the average players rating of 2401. The newly promoted Argentinian Grandmaster Sandro Mareco convincingly outplayed the opposition and took the first place with 7.5 points, full point and a half ahead of the rest of the field.

Finally, the ITT 56 Aniversario Circulo Villa Martelli provided opportunity for the less experienced players to challenge Argentinian International Masters. Lucas Liascovich wins the tournament with 6.5 points, half a point ahead of the colleague IM German Della Morte.
