Pesaro and Chieti win the Italian Team Chess Championships

28th April to 1st May in the wonderful city of Spoleto

The Italian Team Chess Championships were held from 28th April to 1st May in the wonderful city of Spoleto. 14 teams in Master and 8 in Women’s section competed over 7 and 6 rounds Swiss respectively.

The schedule was rather demanding, with two rounds daily starting at 9:00 and 15:30 local time.

The team of Scavolini-Siviglia Pesaro won all the matches and convincingly took the first place with 14 points. The team was composed of Grandmasters Emil Sutovsky, Mihail Marin, Daniele Vocaturo and Sabino Brunello, International Masters Denis and Axel Rombaldoni, reserves Andrea Rombaldoni and Marcello Ragonesi.

Second place goes to Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova with 10 match points and Grandmasters Fabiano Carauana and Kiril Georgiev on the top boards. Libertas Nereto with Grandmasters Rafan Antoniewski and Arthur Kogan comes third with 9 match points.

GM Ivan Salgado Lopez, GM Alberto David and IM Niccolo Ronchetti were the top performers on board one with 5 points each.

The Women section saw a tremendous fight between the teams of R.Fischer Chieti (IM Martha Fierro, IM Elena Sedina, WFM Maria De Rosa, Eugenia Di Primio) and Vitinia Roma (Roberta Messina, WIM Adriana Nikolova, Alessandra Sautto, Fiammetta Panella). Both finished with 11 team points (out of 12 possible) and 15.5 (out of 18) individual points. Better technical tie-break awarded the title to Chieti.
