GM Gregory Kaidanov wins the tournament and earns U.S. ch wildcard
The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis organized the 2011 Saint Louis Invitational on 4-9th March. In addition to $10,000 in prizes, the top two finishers are awarded wildcards for the 2011 U.S. Championship, to be held April 13 – 28, 2011, also in Saint Louis.
GM Gregory Kaidanov drew the final game with GM Jesse Kraai, but only after a 94-move long struggle, to secure a clear first place with a total of six points.
GM Ray Robson scored a crucial victory with black pieces against the seasoned GM Joel Benjamin to catch GM Alejandro Ramirez on the shared second place. The two young players will meet in the tiebreaks later today to fight for the second U.S. ch wildcard.
