GM Cerdas Barus winner at TELIN International Chess Tournament

Nine-round open on 1st-7th April 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia

Telkom Indonesia together with the Indonesian Chess Federation organized the TELIN International Chess Tournament 2011 on 1st-7th April 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The playing venue was the Graha Citra Caraka PT Telkom.

110 players from seven nations competed, among them nine Grandmasters and two Women Grandmasters. All top Indonesian players entered the field, including the legendary Grandmasters Herman Suradiradja and H Ardiansyah coming out from the retirement.

After nine rounds of play, GM Cerdas Barus took a clear first place with 7.5 points, to the delight of the local chess fans. Crucial was his last day victory with black pieces against IM Sadikin Irwanto. At the same time GM Eugenio Torre and GM Dao Thien Hai split the point on the first table.

Final standings:

1. GM Cerdas Barus INA 2443 – 7.5

2-5. GM Merab Gagunashvili GEO 2599, GM Dao Thien Hai VIE 2507, GM Eugenio Torre PHI 2495 and IM Dede Liu INA 2418 – 7.0

6-10. GM Zhang Zhong SIN 2592, IM Sadikin Irwanto 2417, FM Awam Wahono INA 2372, IM Taufik Halay INA 2346 and GM Susanto Megaranto INA 2533 – 6.5 etc

The prize fund was 25250 USD.
