City of San Sebastian International Chess Open

April 1st-8th, San Sebastian

The 30th "City of San Sebastian" International Chess Open took place on April 1st-8th in San Sebastian, Spain. 119 players fought for the 7325 Euros prize fund. The playing venue was City Hall of San Sebastian, one of the most beautiful buildings in the north of Spain.

The scenario was very similar to the one of last year's event. Again five players tied for first place and again GM Kevin Spraggett was one of them. He drew his last round game against GM Reynaldo Vera, allowing Bulgarian IM Marijan Petrov and young Poles IM Jakub Czakon and IM Zbigniew Pakleza to catch up with wins.

Final standings:

1-5. IM Jakub Czakon (POL 2482), IM Zbigniew Pakleza (POL 2446), GM Kevin Spraggett (CAN 2631), IM Marijan Petrov (BUL 2472) and GM Reynaldo Vera Gonzalez (CUB 2481) with 7.0/9

6-11. GM Pablo San Segundo (ESP 2539), GM Marko Tratar (SLO 2476), IM Matej Sebenik (SLO 2483), FM Ivan Gonzalez Menendez (ESP 2401), FM Thomas Huesmann (BEL 2295) and IM Nanko Dobrev (BUL 2467) 6.5/9

The Spaniard Alex Rodriguez Gonzalez got a special prize for the best placed U2100.
